LIFE IN BATTLE

POEM OF THE WEEK

(Philosophical)

By

Elder Emeka Obiandu

LIFE IN BATTLE

Yesterday the boy was born,

Next thing the man is gone.

Today is filled with life,

Far from easy; full of strife.

To the grave from the cradle,

Man is like on a saddle,

In all his struggles to live,

His many pains to relieve,

More than he envisaged,

He's in a battle engaged.

Fight he however gallantly,

His end comes instantly.

When his death knocks,

He goes down in a box.

And all the battle fought,

Will come to naught.

As his fabric rips at the seams,

Down go his hopes and dreams.

Yet while he lives, fight he must,

So his armour knows no rust.

As he’s unable to lift life's siege,

May age, the end to him presage.
